The Sheffield Lasers U14a travelled to Leeds Junior Knights for their first away game of the 2023/24 season.
In what was a tight game after 8 minutes of the 1st period the scoring was opened up by Sheffield’s Rory Hill going 5 hole on a breakaway goal.
The play continued to be end-to-end for the remainder of the 1st period with Leeds coming up with an equaliser in the last 5 minutes.
The 2nd period saw action with both teams narrowly missing out on scoring chances and some great saves were made by the goalies on both sides however the score remained tied 1-1. 😬😬
After 4 minutes of the 3rd period, Leeds took the lead with a tap-in goal from a rebounded shot but Sheffield fought back hard and only 5 minutes later Spencer Sheldon Wright managed to steal the puck in the neutral Zone and with the Leeds defenders hot on his heels he drove the net putting the puck over the left shoulder of the Leeds netminder to make the score 2-2
The play continued back and forth throughout the remainder of the 3rd period until with just 4 minutes left Leeds found a way through Sheffield’s defense and scored another goal with a back-door tap in.
Less than a minute later the Sheffield defense broke down and the puck found its way to a Leeds player standing open in the slot, he took his chance and quickly shot the puck which found the back of the net making the score 4-2 to Leeds Junior Knights.
As the clock wound down the final minute saw Sheffield pull their keeper in a bid to try and pull something back but it wasn’t to be and Leeds took the win 4-2. 👏🏻
Sheffield MVP went to Jake for an outstanding performance and the Played Like a Boss award went to netminder Finn who made some great saves throughout the game. 🎖️🎖️
